Dumbbell Weight Racks – A Quick Guide

Dumbbell weight racks are needed in order to conveniently store a set of dumbbells and organize a workout area. These units make it easy to select the appropriate dumbbell weight because the dumbbells can be organized according to weight increments.

Training with dumbbells is a great way to tone every muscle group in the body and a wide variety of dumbbell weights is needed to effectively increase your strength. Before you buy a dumbbell weight rack, check to see the wide variety of styles available.

Depending on the type of dumbbells that you have, there may be a particular type of rack that is best suited for your weights - certain dumbells fit better in racks that are made specific to their shape.

How Much Gym Space Do You Have?

If your exercise area is small, a vertical dumbbell stand or tower may be the best choice for you. These stands take up very little floor space and can hold enough dumbbells for an average work out.  Another great choice for limited floor space is a wall mounted dumbbell rack.

If you have more space, you could use a traditional tier style dumbbell storage rack. These are shaped like shelving units with two or three tiers to support the dumbbells. Usually the tiers are slightly angled to provide easy access to the dumbbells.

Another style of rack is the A-frame tree. These racks provide the most convenient access to the dumbbells and take up relatively little floor space. Tree racks are commonly used in professional gyms because their design makes it easy to grasp the weights in each hand.

Gyms have special requirements for racks. Sometimes rolling racks, such as the Ivanko rolling dumbbell rack, or portable dumbell racks are needed to provide access to dumbbells in various parts of the facility. Professional quality racks also have to be able to withstand the rigors of continuous everyday use. They usually cost a bit more than homestyle racks, but they will last longer and are a worthwhile investment.
