Weight Lifting Belts – Lifting Heavier Weights Without Injuries

One way to prevent damage to your back is by wearing weight lifting belts. A weightlifting belt is now a common weight training accessory for weight lifters, body builders, power lifters and even those who simply want and need the support at work. Back injuries are one of the more common injuries that you can incur in your lifetime.

Just by simply moving the wrong way, someone can strain their back causing either brief or chronic back pain. And if it’s that easy to hurt your back when simply going about regular daily activities, then it's not hard to imagine how much greater the risk is for back injury when you are involved in sports.

In order for a workout belt to support your back properly you need to know how to wear it properly. A weight lifting belt is worn in much the same manner as a regular belt (around the waist and hips). It is made to be worn tightly, but not so that you can’t breathe! The gross stabilization caused by wearing the lifting belts will enable you to lift more weight than you could without it.

Learning Proper Use And Technique Is Important

Once you have the weightlifting or power lifting belt on and are ready to lift your weights, take a deep breath in and then lift them off the rack. Once you have lifted the weight, you can let all your air out, all the while pushing your stomach outwards as hard as you can so that your stomach and lower back are pushing against the inside of the belt. When used in this manner, belts greatly helps to reduce your chances of back injury.

If you plan on doing some heavy lifting then you should take the time to invest in good quality weightlifting belts. The support it provides for your back will help to ensure that you can lift barbells and weights for a long time to come.
