Aug 9, 2004 Muscle Building Supplements – Which Is One Is Best For You?
Before you become convinced that you absolutely must have muscle building supplements in order to gain muscle, let it be known that it is simply not the case. While they do help individuals gain muscle faster, they are not the only reason why people gain muscle. A muscle building supplement is an additional tool which helps increase your muscle building potential; unfortunately, there are so many different types of products available, it is hard to know which one to buy. Therefore, with a little basic understanding of the different brands and types of supplements available, you can make a better, more informed decision regarding your diet. There are numerous products available, but not all of them deliver what they promise. Some of the more popular types of supplements include: protein, creatine, glutamine, multi-vitamins, HMB, prohormones, flavones, and ZMA. Each one is a bodybuilding supplement either makes the muscle grow, recover, or rebuild faster, but how do you know which one is right for you? The only way to know for sure is learn as much as you can about each one and then through trial and error you will discover the one that works best for you. Remember, not all body types are the same, therefore, what may work for one person, will not necessarily work for you. Understanding Creatine, Protein, Glutamine And Other Sports SupplementsTwo of the more widely used supplements are protein and creatine. Protein is made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of muscle. As far as a muscle gaining supplement goes, it is the best because you simply can’t build muscle without it. The average person should consider consuming about 1-2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight throughout the day. Another popular source of muscle building power is creatine. Creatine is excellent for increasing muscle mass and occurs naturally in our bodies. Essentially, creatine is responsible increasing the energy source in our muscles, thus allowing for longer workouts, or heavier workouts. Another important supplement for building muscle mass is glutamine. Glutamine, or l-glutamine, is the most abundant amino acid found in our muscle tissues. It is responsible for preventing muscles from wasting and improves the time of recovery between workouts. One factor to take into consideration, however, is that glutamine and creatine cannot be taken simultaneously because they end up competing with receptors in the body to be absorbed. It is suggested, therefore, that glutamine be taken pre-workout and creatine is taken post-workout. It seems basic but many people often forget how important multi-vitamins are when working out. A deficiency in any mineral or vitamin can hinder your progress to gain muscle. A good multi-vitamin is an essential muscle building supplement and helps maintain good overall health as well. Other supplements such as HMB, prohormones, flavones and ZMA are constantly being improved upon by the latest in technology. Prohormones and flavones, for example, have been studied and perfected for anabolic gains in the body; however, they come with some warnings, which should be carefully examined prior to introducing them as a muscle building supplement in your diet. Overall, these are simply a handful of the many supplements available on the market. All bodybuilding and weight lifting supplements advertised promise great gains for the right price; however, you should be diligent about what you buy and put into your body. While many of the products are safe and effective, you may find that a certain product doesn’t work for you. Become knowledgeable about the different brands available and try to develop a muscle building plan that can work with, or without, the supplement. In the end, you have nothing to lose, but everything to gain.
