Aug 5, 2004 Body Building Nutrition – It’s All In The Science
Oftentimes people associate nutrition with eating healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, eating healthy is only half of the nutrition equation. For athletes who engage in strenuous exercises, such as body builders, proper nutrients are essential. Body building nutrition is slightly different than the nutrition other athletes might adhere to, simply because the goals and focus vary. Body building often relies on supplements that aid the body in recovery and provide the body builder with strength and muscle gain. The science behind proper nutrition is the key to having a balanced program that will help you achieve your goals faster. Most individuals know that in order to achieve a healthy body and mind we need vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are either fat soluble or water soluble. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in our fatty tissues, whereas water soluble vitamins are quickly used and then need to be replenished. There are a total of 13 essential vitamins and in order for the body building nutriment to be complete, it must include all 13 of them. Supplementing Your Diet For HealthAlthough you can find many nutrient rich foods that contain the majority of these vitamins, it is important to know that when you cook food many of the nutrients are destroyed in the process. Therefore, it is advised that you include supplements in your workout meal plans. Besides, sometimes there will be days or nights where your diet will not be as healthy because you are eating out, or are feeling tired. In this case, supplements are the friend in need. Proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water are the key ingredients to proper nutrition. The weight lifting and body building diet may require more of one key element than another, but should never do without any of them. All of the different nutrients perform specific duties within your body and when you are weight training your body requires even more nutrition. It is not enough to eat healthy, you should develop a bodybuilding nutrition plan and choose foods that will compliment your activities, as well as replenish what you’ve lost during a workout. Our bodies are complex organisms and the science behind proper nutrition is only the beginning of the journey to getting in shape.
